The Tracks We Traversed

Every year at the Social Communications Media department we curate a meaningful set of experiences for our audiences to consume, through our multimedia projects. This time around, we take you on a journey—a journey where every stop has a story to tell. A journey that isn’t an ordinary one, it’s a journey beyond, through the worlds of our imagination yet, with every voice anchored in the ground. As SCMites we pride ourselves as the creators of the next thing. We curate infinite story verses that create ripples across the media galaxy, while learning so much in the process. From the very beginning we were spoken to not as students, but media professionals. And the last year has been hectic for us, from haggling our minds at research, to finding the emotional arc in our documentary films.
Gathering voices and diverse perspectives for our beat assignments or interviewing celebrities. Many of us came across such lingo for the first time. Learning about how brands communicate to the world, to making Social media Campaigns, we have come far in our journeys. And not to mention the seismic shifts in our personalities! At Marginalia, we delved into forgotten spaces worlds, telling human stories with empathy creativity and authenticity. Our writers amplified the voices of those from marginalized communities and overlooked professions, our interview subjects at the heart of every narrative we crafted. From interfaith lovers in India to firebrand sports journalists, and from Golden Globe-winning film directors to beach cleaners who inspire resilience, we have interviewed them all. Most importantly, we learnt to become storytellers, while not forgetting the human interest behind it all. From ragpickers to beach cleaners, scrap dealers to collectors, our writings and multimedia content seek to restore their lost identities. Our Zine projects were immersive, from search from identities to belongingness, to cultural explorations, seeing the city in color, we have done it all. As we look back, it was a year of hardwork, but also learning things about ourselves we didn’t know earlier. The artists journey is often driven from inward to out while keeping in mind the process, at SCM we learnt both. For us this year, every stop was decorated with stories, where our Journey became the story, the essence of it all.
